Softball Manitoba has released the schedules for the Provincial U14 A Girls Championship and the Provincial Senior B Women’s Championship that will be held in Brandon from July 18-20.
The host Westman Magic will play in Pool B, and open their championship by playing the Manitoba Thunder on Friday night at 6:15 p.m. on Diamond #2.
The Magic will then finish their round-robin with games against the defending champion Winnipeg Lightning (11:45 a.m.) and South Interlake Phillies (3:30 p.m.).
Smitty’s Terminators Y2K, Central Energy, Manitoba Angels and Eastman Wildcats will make up Pool A at the Championship.
In addition to the Provincial title, the teams are also battling to head to Canadian or Western Canadian Championships.
Smitty’s already has open entry in the Canadian U14 Championship in White Rock, B.C. in August but the other seven teams will be battling for two spots in the Western Canadian Championship in Lloydminster from August 1-4.
Meanwhile, the Magic, Southern Bandits and Winnipeg Lightning will play a double round-robin to decide the Senior B Women’s Provincial title.
The Magic will play at 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. Saturday and at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The Bandits will be the host team for the Western Canadian U21 Championship in Winnipeg from August 7-10, while the Lightning will be headed to the Western Canadian Senior B Championship in Grande Prairie, Alberta from August 14-17.
The Westman Magic opted out of the opportunity to attend Westerns.

For Immediate Release
The Westman Softball Umpires’ Association is pleased to announce that they will be hosting not one, but two Softball Manitoba Provincial Championships next month.
For the second straight year, the Association will host the Under-14 A Girls’ Championship from July 18-20, while the Senior ‘B’ Women’s Championship will be played that same weekend.
For the U14 Championship, the host Westman Magic will be joined by seven other teams including the defending champion Winnipeg Lightning.
The Eastman Wildcats, Manitoba Thunder, Central Energy, Manitoba Angels, South Interlake Phillies and Smitty’s Terminators Y2K will also be in Brandon to compete at the championship.
“We’re really happy Softball Manitoba has chosen our Association to host a Provincial Championship again in 2014,” said Tournament chairperson Bruce Luebke, “I believe hosting these types of events is beneficial to our local Magic players, helps promote the game in our area and also aids in the continued development of our umpires.”
The Senior ‘B’ Championship will take place July 19-20 and feature three teams including the host Magic.
The squad will play a double round-robin with the Winnipeg Lightning and the Southern Bandits.
The complete schedule for the Championships is expected to be released in the next few days.
Both of this year’s Provincials will be taking place at Simplot Park, whose quad diamonds will be converted to softball to accommodate the event.
“We’d like to thank Brandon Minor Baseball for allowing us the opportunity to use their facility for the weekend,” said added Luebke, “Ideally, we’d like to host these types of events at a facility specifically designed for softball but that currently don’t exist in Brandon.”
To that end, the host committee has decided to designate Saturday, July 19th as Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex Day.
All proceeds from the Provincial Championships on Saturday will go to support the new softball complex currently under construction in Brandon.
