Thunder Claim 2015 Title

The Manitoba Thunder claimed the Softball Manitoba U14 A Girls
Championship Sunday at Simplot Park in Brandon.



  The Manitoba Thunder claimed the Softball Manitoba U14 A Girls Championship Sunday at Simplot Park in Brandon, defeating the Smitty's Terminators 9-3 in the gold medal game.

  Tesia Hrom and Jenna Perfeniuk combined on a three-hitter for the Thunder while Rogerson, Natalie Ellis and Megan Neiles scored a pair of runs each.

  The Thunder not only claim the Provincial title, but will also be Manitoba 1 for the Western Canadian U14 Championship in Winnipeg from August 6-9.

  Smitty's will be Manitoba 2 at that same event while the South Interlake Phillies will act as the host team.

Terminators, Thunder in U14 Final

The MB Angels earned bronze medals at the Softball Manitoba
U14 A Girls Championship in Brandon.

  The Smitty's Terminators moved into the Softball Manitoba U14 A Girls' Championship final Sunday afternoon with a 12-7 win over the Manitoba Angels in the semifinal.

  Smitty's scored five runs in the 5th inning and four more in the 6th inning en route to the victory, with Taylor Wuirch-Coombs, Gabi Dawyduk and Caity Zagari scoring three runs apiece for the Terminators.

  Zagari also drove in three runs for Smitty's while Kaylee Doerksen added four RBI.

  The Terminators will now face the Manitoba Thunder in the Championship Game at 2:30 p.m. at Simplot Park in Brandon.

  The Thunder advanced with an 8-5 win over Smitty's in the 1-vs-1 playoff game earlier Sunday.

  Sunday's semifinal result also means Smitty's and the Thunder will join the host South Interlake Phillies as Manitoba's rep at the Western Canadian U14 Championship in Winnipeg from August 6-9.

Magic Run Ends at U14 Provincials

  The Westman Magic's run at the Softball Manitoba U14 Championship at Simplot Park in Brandon ended Sunday morning with a 9-2 loss to the Manitoba Angels in the 2-vs-2 playoff game.

  The Magic took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning before the Angels offense went to work, scoring all nine of their runs to end the game on the run-ahead rule.

  Emily Zacharias had two hit s and scored two runs in the inning for the Angels, Marlee Hislop singled, walked and also scored twice and Miranda Holod smacked a two-run homer.

  McKenna Penner drove in Taryn Gwynne in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and Trinity Billaney added an RBI single in the 4th inning for the Magic.

  The Angels move into the semifinal against Smitty's Terminators (12 p.m.), who fell 8-5 to the Manitoba Thunder in the 1-vs-1 game.

  The Thunder broke open a 4-4 tie with four runs in the top of the 8th inning to pick up the victory and earn a bye into the final (2:30 p.m.).

  The victory also allowed the Thunder to clinch one of the two available spots in the Western Canadian U14 Championship in Winnipeg from August 6-9.

  Jenna Parfeniu had two hits and scored a pair of runs for the Thunder while Justine Pratcshler and Tesia Hrom had RBI singles in the 8th for Manitoba.

  Hayley Johnson had two hits and scored twice for Smitty's.
