Thunder, Angels Clinch Playoff Spots

  The 9 a.m. draw Sunday saw the Manitoba Thunder and Manitoba Angels clinch playoff spots at the Softball Manitoba U14 A Girls' Championship at Simplot Park in Brandon.

  Jenna Parfeniuk and Tesia Hrom combined on a three-hitter as the Thunder defeated the Central Energy 4-1 to improve to 2-and-0 in Pool A.

  The Thunder scored three times in the top of the 5th inning to break open a 1-0 game, with Natalie Ellis having two hits and scoring a run to lead them offensively.

  The Energy fell to 0-and-2 with the loss.

  The other game on the 9 a.m. draw Saturday saw the Manitoba Angels improve to 2-and-0 with a 16-1 victory over the Eastman Wildcats.

  The Angels scored 11 runs in the top of the 3rd inning in a game finished after three complete on the run-ahead rule.

  Nicole Hammersley had two hits, a walk and scored three times for the Angels while Emily Zacharias and Riley Bell also scored three runs apiece.

  The Angels and Thunder will play at 1 p.m. Saturday to decide first-place in Pool A.
